Hydrogen costs too much to make. We'll probably see ethanol powered cars before we see hydrogen. Or, we build a couple thousand nuclear power plants and run everything off of batteries.

You need stations that can supply the hydrogen in usable form. Compressed isn't going to work and liquid is dangerous. I have seen speculations where it is dissolved in some kind of matrix. But all this needs to be in place before anyone can just drive a car and get the tax advantage.
