Hi lanecove; The MOND theory is an alternative to dark matter. There's a boatload of physics papers out on it. The basic idea is that the newtonian (i.e. highly non relativistic) gravitational force is not quite correct for very small accelerations. The corrected acceleration for very small accelerations is:

a(physical) = sqrt ( a(newton) a0)

where a0 is a physical constant, about 10^-10 meters
per second squared.

Not only does this solve the problem of the galactic rotations that otherwise imply dark matter (matter that has a distribution that does not match that of observable matter), but it also provides answers to dynamical questions in situations that dark matter cannot realistcally address.
