I'm still unclear whether a unified field equation (i.e. a union of gravity, strong and electro-weak), can be built out of Riemann tensors (like the gravitational field equation in GR)?

I suspect it cannot, because in string theory the Universe can no longer be described by a Riemann manifold.

But perhaps you could build a simplified form of a unified field equation using only Riemann tensors. This would be like a limiting condition of the full equation, and might be sufficient for most purposes?
