Maybe K-theory?
I havenīt still studied it, think to do it really soon, but i have the idea that althought strictly it is topology, algebraic topoology, it is very connected to the algebraic side and less to the topological one.

I readed that Witten is using it for some aspect of strings, but donīt know the detaills neither.

P.S. My idea is to study the K-theory chapter of the the Charles Nash book "Diferential topology and quantum field theory",if any has previous experience with it...How good is that chapter?
