Honors Thesis TopicPosted by house on April 09, 2003 at 10:01:26: I have a simple question to ask of everyone: I am an undergrad math major with an interest in understanding string theory. I have been looking into topics for my honors thesis (in two years) and wanted to focus it around some area of mathematics that string theory could use. I am trying NOT to use any physics in my thesis, however, because I am really not that strong in it (in fact, I'm really only strong at abstract topics, not the applied stuff). I'm posting in the topology forum so I already know that this is a good topic, but it's not exactly what I was hoping to work around. I want to write a thesis down the path of "pure" algebra (whatever you take that to be): groups, rings, modules, vector spaces, algebras, etc. I'm looking for ideas for a topic to revolve my thesis around, like a "deep" mathematical theorem I could prove or a specific topic I could delve into (ie: Lie groups, etc) that somehow (in)directly apply to string theory. The more I read up on my algebraic structures, the more I want to do more about them...I just don't know what there is to look up. Anyways, thought I would run it by everyone here seeing how you always seem to have an answer for all my other questions. Thanks in advance!! Follow Ups: (Reload page to see most recent)
