The universe Flat or just a very little curvaturePosted by bhmtst on July 30, 2003 at 22:16:30: The following idea is of a speculatory nature. Since in essence we can not truely asume that we know the shape of the universe. So I am not saying this to be true, just an idea to digest. I believe the best way to disribe this thought is with the theoretical notion of 2 dimentional bodies on a 3 dimentional world. I realize that it is talking about being on the 3-d world, but I think you can use this to discribe the interior as well. First let us talk of the 2-d bodies looking at this 3-d world at a great distance. By this I mean looking at a greater area then normal. At this greater view one of these 2-d bodies could see the curvature of their 3-d world. So of course they would now of the curvature of this 3-d world. Now let use talk about these 2-d bodies looking at this 3-d world at muchlesser area then before. When they whightness the 3-d world this time they won't see the 3-d curve. They will instead see the 3-d curved world as a 2-d flat world. So would not know of the true shape unless they were able to view the earlier discust greater area. One can compare this to our most rescent research and view on the microwave back ground. We truely don't know how great of an area we are looking at. We could be looking at a very small area or a greater area. If we are only seeing a very small area we could be mistaking flat for what realy might be curved. Now, just incase the title is not clear for some. When I talk of a very small curvature, a simple exaple can be used and is as follows: Take the greatest circular portion of 2 curved bodies of differant cuveratures. Take 2 30 degree angles and for each circular portion lie the angles so that one side lie tangant and the other lie secant. The one greater in size will have less of its curvature inside of the angle.
