Thanks.

I guess what I'm wondering is whether or not manifolds can "arise" out of a critical point, not just what the manifold is when a critical point (singularity?) is removed. I'm looking for some "process" by which a manifold arised out of a critical point. I suppose this is the same question as how curled up dimension unraval. Since the manifold can be described by some sort of closed manifold (closed because it is finite as it unravels) that serves as a boundary (of at least the universe), and since these boundaries can be described by functions, I suppose (further) that the mathematical tool to be used to find such functions will be the functional calculus of variation. For we are looking for some principle to be the same as we go from one boundary to the next (as the universe expands)

What areas should I study along these lines?

Thanks.
