Of course in the examples you cite, entropy is the process that prevents "running the movie backwards". And many people have sought to define the arrow of time as the direction in which entropy works.

But this amounts to treating our universe as a very special case. A case where the initial state was immensly orderly, so that cosmic can run downhill, as it is seen to do. That special pleading gets the physicists' shorts in a knot.
