I don't think I am caricaturing the view of physicsists too much when I tell you they mostly will worry about that when some physics appears that makes them consider it. Of course there are always some who want to push further down, and every now and then a paper appears attempting to realize a decomposisition. But the curious thing is that in the two decades since modern string theory emerged, no one has made a compelling case for decomposition. This in spite of the fact that physicists occasionally have to take account of the extended nature and "parts" of the string. Maybe Nature is telling us something?
