The statement that zero length does not exist in the real world is just a matter of semantics. If two points approach each other till they merge you could say that the distance between them went to zero. Or you could avoid that language.

Now I know you are going to say that "points approaching each other" don't exist in the physical world either, but consider this example. There is a point on the Earth's orbit called the First Point of Aries - it's a geometric point on that geometric curve. An astronomers can calculate when the center of the Earth, another geometric point, approaches and passes the First Point of Aries. When that happens, Spring is here!
