If there were a lot of matter on the (hyper)surface of a (hyper)sphere then its gravity would be like an increased surface tension, each mass point attracting each other mass point. This kind of tension,pulling the surface together, would cause the sphere to shrink in order to relieve it, bringing the mass points where they want to be - closer together.
