That some of the expansion is faster than light is shown by the fact that the universe is apparently more that fifteen billion light years across. If all the expansion was less than c, it would be less than {age of the universe in years} light years across.

Another point is that the speed of recession increases steadily with distance. Eventually this steady increase, which is not Lorentz contracted, would exceed c.
