The article is correct, although brief. Since it was written not much has happened, except that there is a lot more emphasis on the brane aspect of strring theory than on the string aspect.

String theory is actually huge, with many topics and threads in it that have not been covered in the popular press, including this article. I don't think that is a fault, it would require a half a dozen brillian writers like Greene to cover it all.
