The lattice amounts to a fixed regulator. No scale can get too small. "All series converge after two terms". Well not really, but almost. Advantage - nonperturbative is possible. Disadvantage - eventually you have to get back to the continuum.

And as with all science, complexity expands to fit the minds available.
