A good example is the Electromagnetic Spectrum, from Gamma to Radio, this is in a sense a template for Cosmic-Particle-Chain, energy spectrum. As with any Chain there are continueous links, and the lower Gamma range is not the smae as the higher Gamma range, there is a transitional range where X-Rays and Gamma-Rays are equivilent. What is different is the enviroment where these take place, and where these energies progress to. X-ray range itself has a continueous and overlapping range to Ultra-Violet Range, which continues through Infra-red, the visable light range is itself just a tiny part of a larger EM spectrum. The 'Cosmic Chain' is never broken. A simple kitchen top analogy is to stir a good 'chilli', sometimes depending on its consistuency, you can stir it clockwise quite easy, but then using the same stirring force If one molocule sticks to the pan, a chain reaction can occur, and its stubborness to 'go with the flow' can lead to a concertina effect, which 'glues' the contents to the original 'sticky' molocule! ;)
