That's what "collider" means. They don't have to have two separate rings: by playing tricks they can get two counrterotating beams of particles and antiparticles separately in the same ring, and then deflect them to run into each other. The interest is not so much in the particles theselves as in the former virtual particles that are promoted into the detectors by all that energy.
