I am currently writing a paper on the philosophy of science, including a section contrasting the assumptions of classical physics with those of quantum mechanics. Please excuse the naivety of my question on the grounds that I am not a physicist.

I think it is logically possible that alternate realities exist that contain forms of matter that co-exist in the same space and time as the matter we normally perceive, if we define 'matter' as 'that which cannot exist in the same space at the same time within one reality.' But is there anything in string theory that would suggest this? If not, is there anything in string theory that would be contradicted by this?
