lattice gauge theories(What are they???)

Hi! I am new here, recently, I came across a book titled "LATTICE GAUGE THEORIES" where the author talks about regularization achieved by lattice spacetime and then calculate (I am not clear about those as I have'nt read them yet) things,and finally make the lattice spacing go to zero.Can anybody elaborate?
