I was thinking, what would I do if I saw an apparent violation of gravity? And that reminded me of a story. There's an Englishman who writes the Daedelus column for Nature. He used to write it for New Scientist. His hobby is building perpetual motion machines. Not real ones, of course, but they appear to run on no input energy at all, and the puzzle is to find out how they do it. Where the hidden energy is really coming from. He was in the habit of taking them around to scientific and engineering conferences and challenging the attendees to solve the puzzle. He was proud that in all the times he did this, only one partial solution was ever offered. On year he brought his latest machine to an engineering conference in Chicago. He explained the challenge to the attendees, but to his surprise he was approached by venture capitalists and engineers wanting to start a business with this marvelous new free energy technology. So the answer to the question I asked myself is, I would immediately contact the Skeptics organization and ask them to send somebody competent to look at the phenomenon, since I am myself not in any way competent to unravel what in all honesty I would expect to be a scam.
