By crowded, I did not mean that there were a lot of the particles in a given location, but that a single particle is pretty much everywhere in those directions. (The wave function components of a particle in those directions can't really be localized.) Must of the collisions between particles, and the resultant thermalization of kinetic energy, still takes place from movements in 3D, so the higher dimensions don't change the temperatures from what we'd expect from a 3D world.
