The Geometry of the Universe

If the universe is a hypersphere, won't the curvature of space near massive objects produce localized defects in this wonderful sphere, thus making it take on the appearance of a sphere only from a distance, but on closer detail, actually somewhat irregular?

Furthermore, I have a question which may or may not make sense, it depends on things I don't know. In the pictures they give of warped 2-space, the warps must either be down or up. Will warps on our hypersphere universe, then, be facing toward the center, or to the outside? Or some other direction, perhaps?

Lastly, if it is possible to have a wormhole to another part of the universe, is it possible that you could theoretically have a wormhole whose mouth would expand to cosmic dimensions, thereby changing the geometry of the universe at large? Could we be living not on a sphere but on a donut with many (worm)holes?
