What are "uncurling" dimensions

When some books refer to unfurling or uncurling dimensions, do they mean that if one travels on these dimensions they will end up where they started? It seems that you either have a cyclic dimension or an instantaneously infinite dimension... an instantaneous infinite manifold.

How do unfurling dimensions relate to the expansion of the universe predicted by General Relativity? Does the Ricci flow equations used in GR predict cyclic dimension that grow with time?

Thanks.
