In the GR equations for a spinning black hole (the Kerr metric) there are paths which go sort of sideways through the BH and wind up "somewhere else". It's not clear where. Hence the use of this for fictional journeys out of our universe.

You are in agreement with a lot of people about BH's engendering baby universes. Hawking and Smolin for two.
