Event horizon questions?

Hi guys, I'm back with some more questions, hope that all of you don't mind my curiosity and ignorance. As all of you have known in a black hole, there exists a point of singluarity and in some of the black holes, there also exists an event horizon and now, my question is 'What is that thing or dimension that exists between the event horizon and the point of singluarity?' Furthermore, for those matter or energy that disappear into the black hole upon reaching the event horizon, do they reach the point of singluarity within an instant or do they need a certain amount of time to reach that point?
