A UNIVERSAL DEFINITION OF TEMPERATURE
TEMPERATURE IS THE RESULT OF COLLISIONS OF PARTICLES,INDUCED (KINETIC ENERGY)DUE TO PROCESSES:
The temperature is quantum mechanical property due to the induced collision processes which affect the kinetic energy of the system.The system could be analysed in statistical thermodyhnamics as ENSEMBLES(micro,macro,grand caanonical ensembles).One can expresses these emsembles using the partition functions concept.
So a temperature becomes a Universally well defined measurable quantity or at least be calculated.This brings us to consider the ideal and real gas laws,van der waal forces etc.The Thermodynamics ushers in there.The famous Gas laws:
PV = nRT
are used in the forms of partition functions for the ensembles based on the magnitudes of the particles.So P,V,T,and n becomes quantum mechanically illustrated.
Now the scale of the temperature could be expressed in different ways like Celcius,ROhmer,Farenheigths,KELVINetc. etc.on the fancies of the discoverer or researchers.The concept of ABSOLUTE ZERO could be related to these nbamed scales.However the boiling point or melting points are related to pressure,a thermodynamic quantity.When the atmospheric pressure of an ENVIRONMENT or LOCALITY,become equal to the inner or inside pressure of a substance comprised of an ensemble of any nature,the boiling occurs or melting or freezing are analogously measured in those terms of thermodynamic equilancies.
Now one can imagine anothe planet in another star or in galaxy or else with the environmental factors which involved the mutations or conversion of GAS LAW(compared to Earth),then one would be obliged to make corrections as we do going from ideal gas law to real gas law where the MOLECULAR INTERACTIONS are taken into considerations.
I hope this description make one see what TEMPERATURE actually is.
